This year the theme of the day is ‘Co-operatives: The power to act for a sustainable future’. Organisers of the day, the International Co-operatives Alliance, say this theme is a nod of support to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were established in 2015 to achieve 3 main things: end extreme poverty, fight inequality and fix climate change over a period of 15 years.
We share and highlight the struggle of Palestinian farming communities to secure rights to adequate water.
We support Palestinian communities right to develop resilient infrastructure to underpin inclusive sustainable development.
"Co-operatives have a unique role to play in realizing the Goals, as they contribute to sustainable economic growth, social development and environmental responsibility. Co-operatives are important partners to achieve the SDGs, because they foster democracy, practice social inclusion and operate with concern for the environment, all while having a significant economic impact on the world economy."
