From Jabaliya Camp, Gaza to Goldsmiths College
heather on August 7th, 2006Dear Friend,
It’s been a long journey since I left home but destination PhD is finally coming into sight. I have worked hard to be where I am now, completed 3 chapters of 6, attended conferences, dug deep into the world of academia and I am nearing completion of 2 years research.
The main barrier to my destination is the £10,000 per year fees I have to pay as an international student. My PhD has been entirely self-funded. I do not have any financial backing but am passionate about Palestininian literature and determined to earn my PhD through my own means.
Please look at my website to learn more about my research and aspirations – www.ahmedphd.org
By the end of August I have to pay no less than £4000 or my academic career is out of the window. To raise the money, I am planning to do a challenging fundraising walk in Wales where I can finish the Offa’s Dyke Path in 4 days. Having succeeded with the PhD challenge so far, I am sure I will be able to succeed this physical challenge and would like you to also bargain on my ability to do so. I will start the Walk on August 28th (One day after my birthday in case you are wondering what present to get) and finish on 01 September 06. I will do minimum of 48 miles and would like you to sponsor me with any genrous offer you can afford; £25 or any nearest offer would be great.
Completing my PhD thesis has been my dream through which I will be able to help others. Please send your cheques to Ahmed Masoud, 33 Carronade Court, Eden Grove, London N7 8EP , or pay online using my website. Please visit www.ahmedphd.org (please click on the paypal donate button on the home page).
Any contribution you can offer will be highly appreciated and will help me to complete my degree and subsequently help the Palestinian society in the Gaza Strip. Already the ball is rolling and so far I’ve had £200 contributions, which leave me with £3800.
Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to read this letter, should you need more information, please don’t hesitate to contact on masoud.ahmed@gmail.com, +44 77 89 768 814. Please forward to others who might be interested.
